Our Rooms

Our Bumblebee Rooms are designed to be warm, welcoming, and well-equipped, providing a nurturing space for babies to thrive. Our baby unit includes two main care rooms and a dedicated exploration room, offering a variety of sensory, messy play, and creative activities.

The first Bumblebee room is cosy and stimulating, offering babies the opportunity to explore in a safe and supportive environment. This room features a peaceful sleep area, a nappy-changing station, and a mealtime space, ensuring that all of your baby’s needs are met throughout the day. The room also has doors that open onto the Bumblebee Garden, a secure outdoor space for babies to explore and enjoy nature.

The second Bumblebee Room offers additional resources and play opportunities for our older babies, helping them continue to grow and develop.

Our exploration room is filled with opportunities for sensory play, including sand, water, and paint, along with other messy play activities that encourage curiosity and creativity.

We understand the importance of consistency for babies and strive to keep staff changes to a minimum, particularly in our baby room. We believe that a stable, familiar environment with a core team of dedicated practitioners supports babies in feeling secure and confident as they learn and explore.

Bumble Bees

3 months- 2 years (3 months- 20 months)

Ladybirds

20 months - 2.5 years

Our Ladybird Rooms are located on the first floor of the nursery, offering two main spaces dedicated to toddlers, along with separate toilets and changing facilities.

Ladybird Room 1 is a calm and cosy environment where children can enjoy activities such as reading, role play, small world play, and imaginative play. In Ladybird Room 2, toddlers have the opportunity to engage in creative activities like building, painting, and exploring sand, water, and malleable materials. Children have free access to both rooms throughout the day, ensuring they can explore and learn in different ways. Toilets and changing facilities are located down a short corridor, easily accessible for the children.

Outdoor play is an important part of the day, and all toddlers have access to the outdoor space at regular intervals.

The routine in the Ladybird Rooms is more structured than in the baby room, as many toddlers respond well to routine, which helps them feel secure and confident in their surroundings.

A key focus for toddlers is the development of their personal, social, and emotional skills. This includes learning to share, take turns, communicate, and build relationships with both peers and adults. Through play-based learning and careful observation, our team creates purposeful activities that support these skills. Toddlers thrive in an environment where they can learn from one another, particularly in areas such as potty training, mealtimes, and social interactions, all of which are supported through group play and guided learning.

Caterpillars

2.5 years - 4 years

Our Flying Start Room is located on the first floor of the nursery, where we offer daily Flying Start sessions and wrap-around care. This dedicated area is designed to provide a wide range of educational resources and activities that support children’s learning and development through play.

Our Early Education Room, located on the ground floor with direct access to the garden, is designed for our oldest children. This space is dedicated to preparing children for school while continuing to nurture their learning and development through engaging play. In this room, we introduce a more structured routine and a slightly more formal approach to learning. This helps children build the skills and confidence they need as they transition towards their first year of school.

We deliver a comprehensive curriculum based on the Welsh Curriculum, which focuses on five key developmental pathways:

  • Physical Development

  • Exploration

  • Well-being

  • Belonging

  • Communication

Our nursery practitioners use an "In The Moment Planning" approach to observations and assessments. This flexible method allows children to take the lead in their own learning, exploring their interests at their own pace. Practitioners are there to guide, support, and respond to each child's individual needs and choices, ensuring a personalised and engaging learning experience.

Garden

Our youngest children have their own dedicated section of the garden, with doors that open directly onto the outdoor space. This allows for seamless indoor-outdoor play, especially on pleasant days. The area is designed to be safe and accessible, so even non-walkers can explore and play freely in their own secure environment.

Children in our Ladybird and Caterpillar Rooms share a large, well-equipped outdoor space, complete with a sheltered area. This space includes a bike and trike zone, allowing children to develop their physical skills through active play. There's also a construction area with building materials and large diggers, fostering creativity and teamwork. Our sand and water play area is perfect for developing both fine and gross motor skills, while the small world area encourages imaginative play, giving children the freedom to create their own stories with a variety of resources.

A recent addition to our outdoor area is the mud kitchen, where children have a blast mixing pies and mud shakes, enhancing their sensory experiences and imaginative play.
